Christmas does indeed occur, even in Tucson, Arizona. There is one significant difference however. The traditional Christmas tree is swapped for a prickly tumbleweed. Desert dwellers often place the tumbleweed in front of their domicile. This is mainly used as a barrier against roving marauders and wild beasts, like the dreaded javelina. Often, the tumbleweed is decorated to add weight. Once the big weed is wrangled into position, you don't want it blowing away! Use caution when handling these ferocious weeds.
